The 2028 Dem hopefuls can roughly be divided into moderates trying to reckon with what happened in 2024 and urging the party to pull back from the craziness… and the crazies who insist that they did nothing wrong and want to double down on it.
Many of the born-again moderates like Gov. Gavin Newsom are really crazies when it comes to actual policy. Pretending to be reckoning with the fallout is a political tactic. And so is going all in on militancy like Sen. Cory Booker and now Gov. J.B. Pritzker. They know what’s going to get more applause from their party and it’s not going on a podcast with Charlie Kirk. In that regard, Pritzker has now outdone every other Dem hopeful by delivering a New Hampshire speech with no ideas, just a call for war. It’s an overwritten and badly delivered speech, but the applause makes it obvious that this is the talk that the Dems want to hear from their leaders.

Because there haven’t been enough riots yet.
The obvious question is what does fat boy intend to do about it? Besides write more checks. Still Dems love the message that they did nothing wrong and that they need to fight twice as hard. And shove men twice as hard into the ladies room.
Back in his speech, Pritzker said Democrats should blame their losses in November on a “lack of guts and gumption,” not on the party’s defense of black people, transgender kids and immigrants.
“Voters didn’t turn out for Democrats last November not because they don’t want us to fight for our values, but because they think we don’t want to fight for our values,” he said.
This is a fantasy, but it’s a seductive fantasy. Double down on freeing criminals, open borders and ending women’s sports. Then denounce the opposition as enemies of the state. It worked for Biden. Bound to work for an ordinary morbidly obese working-class billionaire. But it’s clearly what Democrats want.
The main mistake was attacking Social Security. That’s what almost all the local demonstrators are upset about. It’s such a complex organization and obviously the rich oligarchs know nothing about it, being so rich they don’t need it.. One has to have some experience dealing with the organization to understand how it works. It was barely chugging along as it was, having to hire extra workers when they had to carry out a large scale verification project, for example.
Almost all the MSM articles are advocating positions benefiting the oligarchs, not the ordinary voters, which is suspicious. The ordinary voters don’t care about tariffs and deporting violent migrants, but they do care about their own personal financial survival. 70 million voters depend on Social Security. And many young people don’t understand the problems they are headed for when they need Social Security themselves, having a lot of illusions about the situation. Including how tough old age and retirement is.
There has been no attack on Social Security. There is an attack on the blatant fraud going on within Social Security. That so many people apparently don’t understand the difference is pathetic.

Tell that to all the steel workers and the millions of others from industries that have been gutted over the years by rolling over for outrageous tariffs imposed by other countries, which in combination with the corporates offshoring manufacturing for access to cheap labor and the CCP market has nearly destroyed the middle class and its communities across America.
Tell that also to all the families who have been victims of criminal illegal aliens and gang bangers. Adversaries including Venezuela, Colombia, China/PRC, Iran, Hezbollah, the Mexican cartels (flush with massive income thanks to Biden and now operating in almost all states) and others have used the open border to inject criminal gangs and terrorist operatives into the U.S. The magnitude of this threat is not even fully appreciated or identified with our limited security assets, and that threat will only grow over time.
Most Americans are also smart enough to see the Biden regime’s open borders and the resultant invasion by millions of illegals for what it is — a brazen attempt at replacing American voters (many of whom might vote Republican) with dependents who would vote Democrat once given amnesty and voting rights (by various means including motor-voter) and thereby ensure permanent Democrat one-party rule.
This is actually not the worst of it, for among the millions of illegals that the Biden regime invited into the U.S. are many thousands of Islamic jihadis and other hostile foreign operators who are setting up shop for a future internal assault on America. If you thought Oct 7 was a horror show, that was a dress rehearsal for what is coming at 10X scale across the country. Think about what the Real Estate market and JOB market would look like if 10 MILLION or MORE ILLEGALS were deported! The “American Dream” is unattainable for so many young Americans BECAUSE so many ILLEGALS are being SUBSIDIZED or SUPPORTED in homes and apartments while they’re working and getting money! How do they send $50 BILLION or more back home??
That “ordinary voters don’t care about tariffs” is a sad commentary on economic illiteracy. Many voters cannot articulate the downsides of tariffs.
A tariff is a tax. A tax is a cost. Suppliers attempt to pass higher costs on to consumers. Yes, there are those who assert suppliers will just eat the tax and accept lower profit margins. Those people are clueless. There are people still searching for Bigfoot.
Rich politicians, e.g. President Trump, know a lot about Social Security and Medicare. Trump successfully “did the Democrat” when he demonized DeSantis after Ron, acting like an adult, stated something had to be done about the obvious problem with Social Security.
Social Security and Medicare have huge unfunded liabilities. (Eyes of the accounting-clueless glaze over.) I teach my students what that means and what the implications are. We can increase taxes, cut benefits, or do some combination of both.
It is the tariffs and other regulations on American exports by other nations that are taxation without representation, a major background cause of the American Revolution.
Except for the fact that the insolvent Social Security hasn’t been attacked. (Unbeknown to idiot reporters, leftists saying that it is, doesn’t make it true.)
Social Security should be privatized as in Sweden.
It was also privatized for Galveston County and is highly successful. (Unfortunately, it’s only available for public employees.)
Privatizing Social Security might be a good idea. I think it never should have been enacted in the first place as it was unconstitutional. What was done to get it to pass Constitutional muster was shameful. See “The Roots of the Social Security Myth” by John Attarian.
When speaking at a Tea Party and stating “it is not a proper role of government to provide for my retirement and health care,” the applause I had been getting died down considerably. People want limited government unless the limitation enacted adversely affects them.
Unfortunately, privatizing it now doesn’t address the need for getting the money needed to pay current and soon-to-retire beneficiaries.
Let me get this straight: Are you asserting that as long as those people get their social security checks, they don’t give a sh*t what happens to this country? You should self deport immediately. It doesn’t matter where you go, just go. Git. America is not the country for you.

Illinois had a program that allowed citizens to get a tax credit for donating money to a tuition voucher program. That program allowed students from poor families to escape the public schools that were dismal in spite of high per-student spending. (I contributed to that program.)
How bad are those schools? The black woman who was President of the Chicago Teachers Union called school choice “racist.” She, like billionaire Pritzker, sent her child to an expensive private school. It was the teachers’ unions that Pritzker caters to that wanted the program ended and it was.
Democrat-dominated Illinois is a fiscal basket case. That so many southern counties in the state want to secede should surprise no one intelligent enough to understand why so many liberal policies are failures.

Please, entertain us with your pathetic remarks about how embarrassed I must be. (Sarcasm on.) Having summers and weekends off has been a nightmare. It really sucked getting to coach my daughters and do weeklong bicycle tours of Colorado. It sucks even more having a job that I enjoy so much that I continue to work even though I have more than enough money to comfortably retire with. Economics and investments never give us new things to teach about. Getting voted Professor of the Year three times in my first four years was really embarrassing. (They ended student voting after that.)

Democrats say outrageous, controversial and treasonous things like that all the time with confidence because they know that no matter what they say, there will never be any consequences and thus far, they’re absolutely right.
Why not push the envelop and say such outlandish things when you know the opposition (republicans) is weak and timid and afraid of you and will say little to nothing in response to every outrageous thing that you say?

Trump’s new term that the electorate expected would bring hope for a restored America, leaves one fearful (of late) of what Democrats will do next to stop the President.

Billionaire heir Pritzker seems to be concerned that President Trump’s policies will not only empower American workers but also will tax fat cats like him. The more the Democrats reinforce outlandish charlatans like him, the better the chance that Republicans will hold Congress in the mid-term elections.
That the governor of Illinois believes he can become president should give sentient Americans pause.
This shows that the so-called “progressives” are furthering their stranglehold on the Democratic Party. The old guard is continuing to sit on its proverbial hands because there is now nothing they can do.
